Summer Picnic

I cleaned our bathroom this morning so I deserve a little quilty fun this afternoon.

After all the pee I cleaned off the outside of the toilet and around the floor I'm really tempted to install a urinal. Do you think that would help things? [ In all fairness to my husband I think the real culprit is my 4 your old son. sigh. When will I be done potty training this child?! ]

So, anyway, I started a new summer project. I haven't been able to buy very much fabric this past year, but fortunately I've been collecting fruity fabrics in my favorite colors- blue, red, yellow and green for a few years now. I've been collecting them so slowly that even though some of these are SEVERAL years old this is really the first time that I've gotten them all out together and tried to come up with a quilt to use them in.

I LOVE THESE FABRICS! They are mostly old American Jane prints. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before how much I love American Jane/ Sandy Klop. There are a few other fabrics thrown in including a few thirties and one wonderful Anna Griffin cherry print. They are all so summery and look like they are ready for a picnic!

But, as you can see, I can't decide exactly how to arrange them. I'm leaning more towards one of these scenarios but I want to hear some more opinions. What do you think? Which setting do you like more?
Did anyone keep reading after my disgusting account of toilet cleaning? Sorry if that was too much.

First of all..... I once let Caleb clean the outside of the toilet. Seriously, it helped him have better aim for like 3 or 4 months. Then I had him do it again.

I am also about ready to do a fruity quilt. Most of my fabric is from Darlene Zimmerman. Your's looks so cute! What fun for a picnic!

i ♥ sandy klop's fabrics.
they make my heart happy.

i'm such a big fan of quilts with alot of white in them, so i like the white sashing layout.

My vote is for the white sashing too! I love the fruity fabrics. It is fun to collect fabrics for a theme quilt! Yours is great! You have a talent for putting things together!

The sashing adds such a brightness, I like that one best. It's like a pair of white pants, nothing says summer like wearing white! Pretty pretty fabrics.

Your new quilt is darling. I love it and I love your header. Sometimes I'm glad I had 7 girls and only 1 boy (1 husband)! Sheesh they can make a mess.

these are lovely either way but i guess i would vote on the first one to give a bit of white space and break it up a bit. love the fabrics:)

I browsed back through your 2008 blogs and the Loch Lomond quilt show has a similar quilt that used plain blocks in between the patchwork blocks and it is very cute. Go back and look yourself! You may want to use just a regular block of cute fabric to break up the blocks you have already pieced! It would make the quilt twice the size you have now. Just a thought. :-) Wendy--big time fan of your blackberry pie quilt!

i could so relate to this post...not in a quilty way, mind you, but in a "pee all over the floor and walls" way. with all males in the house (plus countless teenage boy visitors) it never changes. when the boys were little we skipped right past the urinal and thought about taking out their toilet and just putting a drain in the floor and a spray nozzle with easily accessible bottles of tilex.

I hate to be discouraging----but as a mother to 2 teenage boys I must tell you it doesn't end with potty training lol! My solution? I NEVER go in their bathroom...they are in charge of cleaning it :) You can do that when they're older.

I think the white makes those great fabrics stand out more. I have of lot of those fabrics and I love them!!

I love this quilt too and the way it turned out! You have the eye or the knack or whatever you want to call it!
